David Davitt

Position: Retail Systems Co-ordinator

Joining TJ’s in 1995 as a weekend sales assistant at our London Road store, David had aspirations of a career in science when he ’grew up’! After attaining a full time position in 1998 with Supervisor responsibility, David decided he would like to pursue a career in retail management.

After a short period of time David was promoted to a Team Leader position and began to study a NEBs Supervisory Management qualification which TJ Hughes part financed. This course really advanced David’s career and shortly after he was promoted to a Sales Manager position. Over the next five years David got involved in new store openings and worked in various locations across the country.

Five years on David had reached the position of Assistant Store Manager however, decided on a change of career and moved into the IT Department. David has now been in the IT department for four years working on various projects including the roll out of new POS equipment, Chip & Pin installation, and Store Communication systems. David gets the opportunity to provide technical support to head office users and store users, as well as providing training for bespoke systems. He has also been involved in upgrades to the Company’s Windows systems, which encouraged him to study a Microsoft course (MCSA). David’s current role is Retail Systems Co-ordinator and a large part of this involves the management of projects, similar to those described above. To support David’s development, TJ Hughes have funded the Prince 2 Project Management Qualification, which will provide David with the skills he needs to manage projects effectively.

’I really appreciate TJ Hughes supporting me in my study, both for MCSA and for Prince 2. They not only provide financial support, but also give me time off to study. What I really enjoy about my role is being able to get involved in the different areas of IT. I get to put my course into practice by helping head office users but I also get the opportunity to look at potential new systems and manage the implementation of any that the Company decides to introduce.’
