Vicky Fryer
Position: Buyer
I joined TJ Hughes in 2004 as a Buyers Clerk in the Lingerie and Nightwear Department. I was subsequently promoted to the role of Assistant Buyer and moved to the Menswear Department. It was here, under the supervision of a Senior Buyer, that I was given my first buying responsibility. After a year of buying men’s nightwear and underwear, I moved back to the Lingerie team with a promotion to Junior Buyer and more buying responsibility.
On the Lingerie Department I worked closely with the Senior Buyer, purchasing men's and ladies' slippers, swimwear and hosiery. In under two years my hard work resulted in a promotion to footwear and slippers Buyer, which is a challenging but really enjoyable role.
Working in a store allows you to see the results of what a Buying and Merchandising team create. You can identify ways to make a difference, how to build a trend, how to generate add-on sales and work as part of a retail team. I particularly love working at TJ Hughes because it offers fantastic career progression opportunities for those wanting to develop. I also love the fast pace and buzz at head office, where there is never a dull moment.
If you are practical, self-motivated, creative and - above all - willing to get stuck in, TJ Hughes is a company where you can really make a difference.
