Position: General Store Manager - Walsall

I joined TJ Hughes in January 2006 as a Regional Operations Manager. It was a new role to the Company, which involved helping the Regional Controllers to increase commerciality and improve standards across the business. This was a great introduction to TJ Hughes, allowing me to visit many of the stores across the estate. Working with a variety of people some of whom had more than twenty years' experience meant I learnt the business quickly.

In January 2007 I got involved in different projects for the Company, like increasing space density, ticketing standards and looking at the Christmas delivery schedules, which further enhanced my knowledge.

In July 2007 I went to Kidderminster as a General Manager, where I was able to use the experience already gained at TJ's, combined with my previous experience from Allders department store over twenty years.

In April 2009 I moved to Wolverhampton as General Manager. This is where I started my career almost twenty five years ago with Owen Owen as a YTS, so now I have come full circle. In September 2009 I was given the opportunity to become General Manager at our new Walsall store.

I love working with TJ Hughes - there is a buzz about the whole company, everything is one hundred miles an hour, and you never know what is going to happen next. As a General Manager in TJ Hughes you can really make a difference. There is plenty of autonomy and always someone to bounce your ideas off.

If you like planograms and being told where to put products, then TJ Hughes is not for you. If you are hard-working, commercial and enjoy the excitement of a fast-working environment, then it certainly is for you!
